Today we’re sharing 3 easy ways to reheat muffins in a toaster oven or countertop oven using the BAKE, BROIL, and BAGEL settings.

Important: If your muffins are frozen thaw them on the counter for at least 30 minutes or microwave for 20 seconds before using the methods below. Otherwise, the muffins will still be frozen in the middle.

How To Reheat Muffins in a Toaster Oven

This first method uses the BAKE setting and is my favorite way to reheat muffins. The exterior of the muffin gets toasted and crispy while the inside stays soft and fluffy.

  1. Adjust the cooking rack to the middle position (or bottom if you don’t have a middle position) and set your oven to 325°F on the BAKE setting.
  2. Place muffins directly on the rack in the center and press start.
  3. Cook until your muffins are lightly toasted on the outside and warmed through, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  4. Remove muffins from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes before devouring.

For convection toaster ovens reduce the temperature to 300°F and start checking on your muffins a little earlier.

Can I warm the muffins without toasting them?

Yes! You can place them in a covered casserole dish or wrap them individually in foil before following the steps above. Quick Note: Make sure to check the owner’s manual for directions for using foil in your toaster oven.

How to Reheat Muffins With The Broil Setting

If you’ve read our post about the 3 Basic Toaster Oven Settings then you know that the BROIL function uses only the top heating elements.

If you only want to warm and crisp the insides of your muffin, then the broiler is the way to go. It’s a totally different yet equally delicious muffin experience that is also great for reheating biscuits.

Start by slicing your muffins in half and spreading each side with butter. Then place the halves on the baking sheet that came with your oven.

Adjust the rack to the middle position and set the toaster oven to BROIL.

Broil the muffins until the butter is melted and they are toasted on the edges, about 1 to 3 minutes depending on the strength of your machine’s broiler.

Remove from the oven and cool for a few minutes before enjoying with a cup of coffee or tea.

If the Broil feature on your toaster oven/countertop oven is adjustable you might want to reduce the temperature. Using a lower Broil temperature is great for delicate items like the marshmallows in these ooey-gooey Toaster Oven S’mores.

How to Reheat Muffins Using The Bagel Setting

We’ve mentioned before that the Bagel Setting is one of our favorites. In addition to creating perfectly toasted bagels, it’s also good for warming and toasting muffins (or biscuits).

On most toaster ovens, the Bagel setting is designed to use the top heating elements to crisp and toast the inside of a split bagel. While the bottom heating elements provide a gentle heat that warms the outside of the bagel.

So it’s basically like combing the Bake and Broil methods used above.

With the Bagel Setting, you can reheat the muffins whole (the tops will get toasty). But we usually do ours sliced in half and buttered.

  1. Adjust the cooking rack to the middle position.
  2. Place your muffins in the center of the rack.
  3. Select the BAGEL Setting, choose the Darkness Level, and the number of slices. (To reheat 2 muffins in our Breville Smart Oven Pro (BOV845BSS)we use a Medium Darkness Level of 4 and Slices Setting of 1 or 2)
  4. Press START to begin toasting.

Your Bagel setting may warm/toast muffins faster or slower so you’ll want to play around with it a little to find the setting that works best for you.

  1. You have a much more fanciful toaster over than my Black and Decker! My rack isn’t even adjustable and I have to turn knobs, not push buttons.

    1. Hi, Light & Harmony!

We used two different ovens for the photos in this post – our little Oster (the one with the knobs) and our larger Breville countertop oven (the one with the Bagel setting).

I actually really like the Oster for reheating muffins, it may be tiny with less features but it still does a great job 🙂
