  1. I would like to know if breaded catfish can be made crispy in the toaster oven? Hubby loves catfish – we live in an Assisted Living Facility with hubby who has Alzheimer’s and I dare not fry so as to not set the alarm system off – lol. I do have the Oster French Door Oven and every once in a while I like to cook for myself rather than go to the Dining Room. Saw a recipe for the breaded crispy catfish, but not for the toaster oven?

Thank you for any help you can give me in this matter – Have a wonderful evening and God Bless.

    1. Hi, Ellie!

Your toaster oven, with those double doors is my favorite design 🙂

It also has the two toaster oven settings that will help get things crispy, your broiler which applies powerful direct heat (mostly) to the top of your item and the convection function which circulates the heated air in your toaster oven and helps to remove exterior moisture (the nemesis of crispy food).

We’ve never cooked fish in our toaster oven but if I was going to make a crispy oven-baked recipe (like this one) I would follow the directions but use the convection function, reduce the temperature by 25 degrees (convection makes things hotter) and check on the fish 4 to 5 minutes earlier for doneness.

Another option is something like this recipe, where you can start the fish in a small oven safe skillet on your stove and then move it to the toaster oven to broil for a few minutes.

You might have to experiment a little but it’s possible to make crispy fish in your toaster oven so you don’t have to worry about setting off the smoke alarm and being the talk of the facility 🙂

I hope you have a lovely evening too and my best to you and your husband!
